Hello, Everyone

The Robota book is finally here! Thanks for all your patience. The book is officially due to be released this October but Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com as well as several bookstores are already selling them. Needless to say, I am very excited to finally share the story and art with you.

The book turned out exceptionally well and I'm thrilled with the results from Chronicle Books. Many kudos to the entire Chronicle staff for their stellar job in putting together a very unique book, which I hope many of you will enjoy for years to come.

Based on pre-order interest Chronicle is already doing a second printing and they are busy translating the French edition.

Here are some praises for Robota:

"Having had the pleasure of working with both Doug Chiang and Orson Scott Card on different projects, I can certainly vouch for them as visionaries in their respective media. Only after the fact does it seem inevitable that they should find each other and dance this astounding duet. Whether the story drove the images or vice versa, the collaboration has yielded a work of stunning beauty. As we march inevitably toward a fusion with our own machines, Robota provides a parable of a future in which the boundaries of the term "human" are stretched and redefined, in which consciousness and even love conquer form and substance. Bravo, and may the saga continue."

-- James Cameron

"Doug's incredible artistry was the inspiration for many of the visuals in Star Wars Episodes I and II, but I knew that he was passionate about completing his own project, which sprung from a single sketch he made as a boy. Now, after years of work, that one doodle has become the magnificent, other-worldly Robota. Doug's vast talents and imagination have resulted in a terrific book."

-- George Lucas

"Just like many of my favorite films, Robota transported me to places I could never go to in real life. Doug has created a rich and wondrous world filled with great characters."

-- Robert Zemeckis

"Robota is beautiful. While reading I would find myself dreaming about seeing all this up on the big screen."

-- Ralph McQuarrie

In other news, the second Robota teaser has won another animation award this time at the Annecy Animation Festival. The teaser won for 'Best Advertising/Promotion Film'. Furthermore, work on another all new CG animated teaser 3 is in the works and will be finished this Fall. This third teaser will be much more about character and action. Stay tuned for more updates as well as some major announcements!

Meanwhile, I'm still very busy working on Polar Express which is due to be released November of 2004. Look for the first theatrical teaser this Fall in a theater near you for a glimpse at this incredible film.

And last, earlier this year I received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Arts from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. My heartfelt thanks to the Academy of Art College for bestowing this very great honor.

Hope you enjoy the book!

Cheers,

Doug
